Course Description:
This one-hour, one-credit Continuing Education course is designed to help coaches teach dynamic skating by focusing on practice design for young players (ages 8U-12U). Participants will explore the 5 Elements of Practice Design that are critical for creating activities that promote skating development. Through real-world examples, coaches will learn to observe key principles of skating fundamentals and develop environments where the game itself becomes the teacher, allowing young players to improve their skating skills through guided play and discovery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of the 5 Elements of Practice Design when developing skating-focused activities for 8U-12U players.
  • Recognize proper skating fundamentals by observing and applying the main principles of skating development in practice activities.
  • Create a learning environment that encourages players to develop skating skills naturally, with the game acting as the teacher.

Format:
This live Zoom session includes presentations on effective practice design, video analysis of skating development in young players, and group discussions on creating engaging, game-like drills that reinforce skating fundamentals.
